Choose to Love
There is no room in us for fear today, for we have welcomed love into our hearts.
(A Course in Miracles Lesson 310: In fearlessness and love I spend today)
The recent terrorist attacks in Brussels have left many Europeans feeling scared and angry. It is very easy at times like these to feel small and frightened and to assume that there is nothing we can do to counteract such insane, random acts of terror and carnage.
But there is actually a lot we can all do to assist the world during these troubled times. First of all, we need to remember that although the world and our bodies look solid, everything is made up of energy. So, we are all engaging in a constant energetic exchange with the world around us. When the collective energy around us is full of fear and anger, it is very easy for us to feel these emotions too. However, if we are relatively conscious or ‘awake’, we can choose to resist the temptation to join the whole world in becoming more and more fearful and more and more angry each time we are ‘attacked’ by terrorists. Because if we do this, we just increase the danger of an ever escalating cycle of attack/defend/attack.
As spiritual practitioners, it is our responsibility to decide that we are going to become part of the solution to humanity’s fear and paranoia, rather than part of the problem. How do we do this? Well first of all, we have to learn to release our instinctive fear and our strong desire to attack those who attack us in some way – if only with our extremely angry thoughts about them.
One way to do this is to sit quietly and notice our own emotional response to the terrorist attacks. If we tune in beneath the stories we are telling ourselves, such as ‘These terrorists are evil bastards’ or ‘They will attack the UK next for sure’, we can become aware of any angry or fearful energy that is arising up in us. We can then ask for higher assistance to release this very unhelpful energy from our system.
How do we release fearful energy from our bodies and minds? One effective way to do this is to sit in meditation and connect to a higher light. We can then see ourselves bringing light down into our body so that we can dissolve our fear and anger in this light- just as dark clouds can dissolve away in bright sunshine.
Another way to dissolve any fearful or angry energy that we notice arising up within us is to open our heart to love and compassion. We just sit in meditation and bathe ourselves in loving kindness and self-compassion. Love is all powerful, and love energy can definitely dissolve all fearful energy, but to utilise the infinite power of true love like this, we do have to be able to raise our consciousness high enough to connect to the high vibration of love energy.
Obesity is another vast reason where buy viagra for this problem. This will generally be offered when drugs and injections do not work; in one study, about 20% of men who tried a generic levitra online amerikabulteni.com (high-priced) pump decided to proceed to purchase one. By linking the importance of integrating culture and ethics with the significance of HR practices, one can see that “appropriate incentives” actually referred to how employees are promoted and paid. canada cialis generic Usually, it is less severe than penile viagra canada cheap try that pharmacy store fracture.
Sometimes we have to be very patient and persistent as we keep practising meditation, or Infinite Chi Kung and Tai Chi, to raise our own vibration and consciousness up to the level of love energy. But once we connect to love energy, and learn how to utilise it to dissolve any fearful or angry energy in our system, we can definitely begin to assist our troubled world, without even leaving the comfort of our own home.
Of course, simply processing our own fear and anger in response to terrorist attacks or other forms of violence in our world is not enough for us to become part of the solution. The next step we need to take is to fill ourselves with as much higher light and divine love as we can and then gently, but powerfully, extend this love and light out into the world around us. If you are feeling very strong in the light, you might even be brave enough to send love and light to the souls of the suicide bombers – but I do have to warn you that this spiritual exercise is not recommended for beginners on the path!
How does sending love and light out into the world help counteract terrorism? Isn’t it wishful thinking to believe that something so simple and gentle could be an effective response to such atrocities? Well I am certainly not claiming here that sending love and light out into the world is going to magically stop all terrorism in its tracks. I am not that naïve! I am fully aware of the limitations of the spiritual practice of forgiveness and loving kindness in terms of creating a violent free world in our lifetime. I know it is just not going to happen!
However, I do know that each time we hold hatred in our heart for those who seem to be trying to destroy us, we are adding another drop of very dark, toxic energy to a world that is already deeply polluted with hatred and conflict. On the other hand, each time that we pause and let go of our instinctive egoic need to defend our little-self by attacking others, we create space for a miracle to happen. We can then choose to send love energy out into our world, and each drop of love energy that we extend more than counterbalances the hate-filled energy being extended by all those human beings who are not yet conscious enough to rise above all their egoic fear and anger.
Will we immediately see a noticeable difference to our troubled world if we spend just a few minutes every day sending drops of love energy out into it? No! But we will notice a difference in ourselves. Each time I do this practice, I feel more at peace, lighter, brighter and a lot safer –however bad the daily news may be. I also have complete faith that in the miraculous power of love in action. So I will keep doing this practice until the day that I die, and know that at the very least, I have stopped contributing to the cycle of hatred and violence in our world. I will also keep reminding myself that when we hold love in our hearts and nothing but love, we will know, that – as eternal souls – we are eternally safe, whatever terrorists may choose to try to do to us, and when we know that we are eternally safe, what is there to fear?
