JASON’S APRIL MESSAGE
At heart, the spiritual journey is one in which you go on a search to rediscover your true identity. Human beings have totally forgotten who they are at their core, and they will never remember their true identity until they begin to awake and to have direct experiences in which their true-self is revealed to them. Unfortunately, you cannot gain this essential knowledge simply by reading spiritual books or attending spiritual workshops. Only direct experience of the truth will change your mind about your identity.
Some individuals have grown up believing in Jesus Christ or Buddha without really thinking about what that means. They have just been programmed with certain beliefs and preferences. But a direct knowing of the energy (or essence) of Christ or Buddha is completely different to believing in them.
Many years ago, I realised that we cannot love truly if we do not know who we are or why we are here. We identify with a false self we can not love, and which does not know how to love one another. So we never feel fully satisfied with life or completely fulfilled.
On one Italian retreat, I remember telling participants that even when everything in their lives was fine, they might still feel mildly anxious, irritated or depressed because of a deep sense of being not good enough in some way and an existential feeling of a lack of love. The only way to remedy this is to follow a genuine spiritual path that leads to the ultimate truth about your true nature.
We are so blessed to have so many genuine spiritual teachings now widely available to us, but there is now a danger that certain core spiritual concepts will become over-used and then diluted or even distorted. We can so overuse spiritual terms such as ‘love’ and ‘forgiveness’ that they become ordinary, rather than extraordinary.
Words are important, but they can also be obstacle on the path because we tend to misunderstand common words such as love or forgiveness. We all think that we know what love is based on our past experience of falling in love. But this type of special love is completely different from an infinite, universal love: an energy that permeates absolutely everything.
Forgiveness is a misused word in spiritual circles. Many spiritual practitioners will claim to have completely forgiven their parents for example, whilst clearly still holding onto a load of hurt and resentment from their childhood – a type of forgiveness that A Course In Miracles shockingly labels ‘forgiveness to destroy.’

Only then can we truly forgive those whom we have blamed for our past pain. Unfortunately, most of humanity still does not know how to heal their stored pain and darkness by releasing it into the healing energy of pure unconditional love, and so forgiveness remains a totally misunderstood process in our world.
Removing Your Blocks to Knowing the Truth
Beginners on the path have no idea about the higher mind or the Holy Spirit’s Mind. This is actually our natural mind but we will never know this, unless we keep unfolding into it step by step. At our core, we are all unconditionally kind, loving and compassionate. But again, we will never know this unless we consciously remove some of the blocks to the love that is the essence of our being – and this is usually a painful process! You need to cry your eyes out many times on the path, and you may also need to scream your head off occasionally in order to release all your stored, emotional pain. But eventually, if you are strong, brave and persistent enough, you will notice that you are naturally becoming more loving and compassionate. You may also begin to touch your primordial innocence and purity that lies way beyond your programmed personality-self.
The spiritual journey is an upward path in which your consciousness soars ever higher. But you will need a clear, calm mind before your energy can spiral upwards without getting trapped in endless negative thinking that drags your consciousness down once again. The good news is that once your consciousness is high enough, you will notice that you can no longer harm another person. All normal human beings can be cruel to one another – even just with their hurtful words- but the more you awake and raise your consciousness, the more you will feel the pain in doing this.
Eventually, you will perceive a light within you. As you climb further and further up the path of awakening, you will also be able to look back and see how much progress you have made on your unique spiritual journey. You will begin to notice your natural compassion for all sentient beings. But you will also see your own shadow side and you may notice your mood shooting up and down quite dramatically for a while because you are no longer suppressing all of your anger and fear.
After the spiritual honeymoon, you have to release your shadow side. You connect more and more to the light and then release all of your stored inner darkness into that light until you become less self-centred and feel a genuine desire to help others. An awakened individual can no longer wish to destroy any other human being. They cannot even drop rubbish in the street! An awakened individual will rescue animals or forests without even thinking about whether it is the right thing to do. They will give and give quite naturally once they come to know their true, limitless self.
