The explosion of fake news in society challenges and distorts not only our democracies, but our beliefs, habits, health and inter-personal relationships. Of course, propaganda has always been around but today it’s so easily and so quickly disseminated throughout the world. You can fact-check, google and cross-reference statements to reduce the risk of being misled, but remember the old adage- ‘there are lies, damned lies, and statistics’!

The mind is very vulnerable, easily swayed and persuaded to believe anything, influenced by your mood, past experiences, beliefs and social conditioning. If I were to tell you a piece of gossip, what would make you believe or disbelieve it? If I am a  good story-teller and know something of your weaknesses and fears, I could make you believe it.

The soul, that eternal essence of you, recognises Truth, but the human mind can not. The ability to differentiate your personality from your soul, the ego from the heart, or put another way, lies from truth, does require a solid spiritual practice. With your dedication to truth and love, your level of conscious awareness will rise into a higher vibrational state than your mind. Here, with a still mind and open heart, you can tune in to universal wisdom . 

THE ART OF DISCERNMENT

The difference between soul and ego is not clear cut. Before you can realise you are a soul you must be conscious enough to observe the contrast. The ego can not generate peace or love. Anything that is good for ‘me’ surely comes from ego. It knows you inside-out and will even transform into a spiritual ego to continue its influence on you. So you may read the right books, eat the right food, do the right practice. You look and sound spiritual, but you have spiritual pride and judgement, and hate your mother-in-law. There is a shadow side to even spirituality.  Ego is cunning and will tell you what you want- even saying it’s for your highest good! 

In this worldly plane, ego reigns supreme. So beware of the influence of the mass consciousness, because very few people are awake. If a spiritual teacher has a lot of followers, is incredibly popular, his teachings must be true, right? Not necessarily.  He/she appeals to the collective psyche, that’s all. The great teachers all talk the same – about Love, Truth. Genuine spiritual teachings are aligned with love.

The mind is vulnerable and easily persuaded by propaganda, cultural influence, religion, subconscious programmes, circumstance, emotion, people. All this is ‘me’.  It can be changed, but be prepared for a lot of resistance.

Please understand that your personality is not the enemy. Rather, it represents something you can change. Your character, behaviour, and beliefs can be changed. Habits can be changed. They are not you!

But some people are entrenched into this personality-self because they completely identify themselves with it. They just can’t change, even if they don’t like themselves, because it is ‘me’. This is the ego thought system. But everything that is not eternal in you can be changed.

You know you have a body and mind, but where do you put your heart in this equation? Can you discern that soul or spark of Truth within you which is completely different from your mind and personality?

Your devotional heart is the key to developing the wisdom that will guide you towards truth and not falsehood. It is based on Love, not on a belief system, not on self-sacrifice. ENERGETIC VIBRATION AND YOUR DAILY PRACTICE

Somewhere deep inside you want to know Truth. Momentarily you may experience peace and beauty, only to lose it again. So aim for consistency in your energy practice and I guarantee you will experience it more and more. 

Through regular Infinite Meditation  your chakras and meridians will open and conscious awareness will increase so that eventually you will notice, moment-to-moment, which of your thoughts and impulses arise from your ego-self, and which are soul-inspired. It is at this point you start to identify yourself as spirit, not ego. Understand that internal guidance is always there, if you can connect to it through its vibration. 

THE POWER OF TRUTH

At the higher vibrational level, we may know Truth. Truth is a vibration. So you need to raise your own vibration to connect with it. This is inner work. The practice is to open up your faculties to assist you to tune into the beauty, peace and love which is ever present. In this state, Truth dawns in the inner mind and the heart experiences the beauty of life. This is discerning wisdom.

You don’t need to believe in Jesus, Buddha, or Shiva. You know Truth – which includes everything. You see, Truth is directly experienced. It is not found through reading or belief. It emanates through the body and mind. A true Master emanates Grace, enabling you to feel it too. That is their teaching. It is not what a Master says, it is their presence. When you meet someone who holds the presence of Truth, it resonates with yours and the more you get in touch with that presence, the more you can tell the difference between what is real and what is not.

Sometimes it seems that Humanity is balancing on a knife-edge. Without discerning wisdom, it is easy to tip over into negativity, hatred, anger and suspicion. So in all aspects of daily life, feel your heart, and you will know what is true, and what is right.  Let  your heart be your compass, your mast and your anchor.
